Yes, well, judging from the auction's pictures I knew it wasn't going to be "complete" kit but technically a built-up with original box. I figured it was worth half a truly complete kit mint in box and that's what I got it at. I couldn't drop the dough for a mint kit so this'll do just fine by me! Besides, I have an original backdrop and the other miscellaneous paperwork already. It's the box I'm most eager to get ahold of. Looking forward to its arrival next week (coming via parcel post).

Besides, I was too jealous of acroray, with his boastful profile pic, to resist having an original, big, red Rex again!

I need both, and a 72 Tar Pit. Then I will have all the domestic Aurora boxes.

Congrats on the Score!!!!! That is one of 4 boxes I need to finish of the collection. So you need both the Rex boxes? That mailer box- is that from a catalog/dept store order of the Rex? I originally had a Rex back in the early 70s and it probably came in a generic box like that since my mother worked for SEARS back then. I don't have any childhood recollections of having the big, picture box- it would've been cut up for the pix and taped to my bedroom walls like all the other kits I had! Have you traced back to which store that mailer box came from?

That is the JCPenny catalog box. Which also has no backdrop, and is what I had when I was a kid.

Received my T Rex earlier than expected- well done USPS! Opening the box I got a nice surprise- the original backdrop is included! It's in great shape- near mint! The instructions are a bit rough though- some insect-gnaw holes I believe. But the glow nameplate is in great shape as well. Other than some busted interior pins (the two that limit the tail's ball joint movement) the T Rex is cosmetically in great shape for its age. Which starts to make me wonder....hmmm....is it an Atlantis repro with an original box?! Does the Atlantis repro have the original AURORA PRODUCTS INC. 1974 copyright mark inside the body part still?!

No, it doesn't. Monogram removed that, way back when. And as you can see in this pic, the Atlantis is a much different shade of orange

Yeah! I got my grail Rex! Wow! What an albatross of a score! Seriously, the built up and the box are huge. I'm asking for an experienced suggestion- what's the best way to store them? (Displaying them is not an option...according to the wife)

Well, I keep my Rex boxes (reissues) in a plastic tote. Got the idea from Dave Hodge last year at WF. When he brought his stuff in for the display that is what he had his in, and thought it was an excellent idea.

Very cool T-Rex and a great price. I use plastic totes as well for big boxed like T-Rex a professional art supply store (like Sam Flax near me) usually have special plastic and padded storage envelopes that protect from fading, etc. Professional photographers use them for large prints.
