Please list and discuss the kits Pyro made in this thread.

Well, the brontosaurus was the first kit I ever had. I was about 4. Since I couldn't have glue, I taped it together with scotch tape! ;D They were about the only thing in town, so to speak, until the advent of prehistoric scenes. They had charm, but even as a kid I knew they were bad. The best was the corythosaur. I thought the paintings on the box were great, just the product inside fell short. Now there's an idea, a line of resin kits that match the cool art!

Speaking of cool art....how about the Bandai kits? The product was questionable too but the box art was fantastic.

wow, I just say these kits, and realize that I had the purple bronto and the shiny protoceratops when I was really, really young. No older than 3. I presume my folks helped me make those, but just seeing them brought back some of the oldest memories I have.

I've seen lots of weird colors for Pyro's dino kits, but on eBay today was the first time I've ever seen one cast in red. It was unpainted and in pretty good shape (but missing name plate and possibly the cave man if he was included with it), so I bought it. Should probably have it in hand in a few days. In the meantime, auction photo. I guess now I'll need to find a red nameplate (or at least a nameplate to paint red) and a red caveman ...

Wow. I don't remember seeing any in red before either.

There was another one in a Pyro dino lot that just closed on eBay, but it has paint smeared all over it. But these are the first ones I've ever seen as well. (Lot has a nice, complete Green Rex in it as well.) www.ebay.com/itm/120791329450The previous owner of the red one I bought is in his 50s, and indicated it was from his very early childhood - probably one of the first models he ever built. Probably makes it a Pyro long-box edition.

Love the pics! I have a couple of long-box Pyros, but they look a little more modern than that, although they still predate my existence, heh - the Ankylosaur "Fortress Lizard" and Dimetrodon "Sail Lizard Dinosaur"
Some day I'm going to do a few dioramas with Aurora sailbacks, supplemented by mini-releases and pyro lizards.

Leader Desslock - What colors are your long-box Pyros, and which ones do you have, sir?

They're both 1966 editions, I believe. The Dimetrodon model is a light purple/grey (much lighter than the bronto I'vs seen in purple), and the Ankylosaur is a similar color, but a bit lighter/greyer. I can upload some pics if interested.

Those have some excellent box art. I think, personally I'd rather have the earlier, more-primitively illustrated boxes since they more accurately depict the primitive sculpts of the kits inside! ;-)~

A new member my Pyro herd: the first edition of the Pyro Stegosaurus! I'm fairly certain this is the first edition. My father got it for me from eBay, along with the first-ed red Pyro Rex and a a Bronto in a dark blue color that I've only ever seen associated with the first edition Pyro box. I've also seen the orange Stego paired with a red Rex one other time on eBay, and none of the latter Stegos I've seen have been bright orange.

The original owner of this guy did an OK job building, with some nice flats work on the base, a nice complimentary color for the plates and spikes, and a decent job on the cave man. Mainly, though, the original 1960s builder did it exactly like I prefer to do my exotically-colored Aurora kits! There was a lot of flash and paint wear, the name plate was messy and the cave man was right against the dino. So I trimmed the flash, scraped off the smears and messy painting edges, re-positioned the cave man, matched and retouched the paint, and coated it all with a flat lacquer (which did a nice job of hiding the old glue smears and turned the glossy-painted caveman suitably dull.)

The first appearance the the Pyro Stegosaurus' cave man. He would remain in his battle with Steggy until Lindberg's 1992 Jurassic Park edition.

Accidentally lost the eBay auction for this edition of a HOW AND WHY WONDER BOOK OF DINOSAURS! (forgot about it- slipped thru my fingers!) Wanted to get it simply for the photo cover which utilized built ups of Pyro dinosaur models and other brands too. Anyone here happen to be the lucky winner who outbid me?
