Afternoon all. As the forum has exceeded its attachment levels and I can't post a picture. This is just to remind everyone to check outr our new product later today..... The Dinosaur Boneyard..... a rather nice base for any of your horned dinosaurs that don't yet have one. All those replacement headed ceratopsians looking for a home now have one. Are you looking to expand your layout with a scenic feature to give you larger PS creatures a bit mor room? The molds will be on their way to Mark for USA production mid next week. The US version will have a little secret extra part! The mix and match idea is a great one. I'm off to my hobby room to do some mixing and matching myself!  |

Well I don't want to be a glutton and grab the first 3, but I'll take the first 2! Need a dragonfly or two for my layouts......
Mixin' and matchin' Mike had a Ceratosaurus or Polacanthus base that features a backbone (large half) and a ceratops base that had a skull (small half) that might give you some ideas...have to dig thru my inventory to be sure......... The ceratops base I remember as one-piece, so cutting is required.....

Hi pbbase. Put your reservation in with Mark. He should be getting the moulds for the Universal Base you pre-orderd any day, plus a few extras I threw in for him to pass on to you. The Dinosaur Boneyard moulds, plus a box of dragonflies are waiting to be shipped over the sea as soon as I have the money that the British Postal system require. Postage is a killer this side of the pond. Anything over three kilos goes through the roof. Believe it or not its cheaper to send two 1.5 kilo parcels than it is one 3 kilo parcel!!!!! The logic defies me. Anyway rubber is heavy. You can follow the manufacture of the moulds on the Prehistorix website. If you go to 'The Cave' section under 'Mesozoic Moulding' you can follow the process of manufacture in the illustrated article I put together.

The shipping rates over there are even worse than they are here, when shipping internationally.
It's the whole reason I never got that hanging display for the Revell-Germany glow-paint reissues.
It was going to be $60 shipping from Germany. Not because of weight, but because the dimensions.

Tay you are so right about this. In the good old days you simply paid for the weight, so it didn't matter how big your parcel was. Now not only do you pay for the weight, theres also a size charge. On a UK post office counter they have a stencil which is supposidly the size of a letter slot in a door. If even a bendable envelope won't go through it clear you pay an extra charge even on a big letter. Its universally agreed that this stencil is a little on the small size and they still get away with it. The moulds for the Universal base we came up with weighed in at 3 kilos and they wanted £53 to get the box to New Jersey from Cheshire UK. Thats close to $70! The lady told me to split the box and it then ended up costing £36 for the two smaller parcels. it also means we use bags for some of of our kits instead of a box which we prefer. We like to keep postage to a minimum but the leaping tiger etc was just ideal for a fancy box.
It means it doesn't pay for me to make the moulds and ship them, so I send Mark my originals when its possible. Clay is fragile so theres always a breakeage and Mark gets no rest fixing as well as moulding. It also means I end up waiting for a copy of my own kit! LOL! Not that any of this will stop us trying for world domination....... Don't get me started about printing either. The most expensive part of packaging a kit is devising a colour box!

Another winner Bill. Still working on the coelacanth base with the Sternbergi conversion, haven't started the MHG yet(I've really gotta work faster!) but I'll get one anyway. Would be good to break up all the ceratops conversions. On the subject of postage, it's actually cheaper from UK to Oz than from US. All up, I've probably spent as much on postage as I have on kits, that's why I wait and usually place a big order with Mark to combine postage. Keep up the good work mate.

Its nice to be appreciated, plus its great to know that Prehistorix is in Oz, the USA and the UK. We've conquered the civilized world!
I'll make sure that there are plenty of dragonflies for you and PBBase, though they are a devil to cast. You have to pour tiny ammounts of resin in to very thin moulds on a very level surface. I'm sure theres an easier way! Plus remember theres no rush to order well keep this kit on as long as the moulds last. The mesozoic hunting ground moulds were starting to wear thats why we capped the number of kits. i made a few too many undercuts on the sculpt. The boneyard should pull enough to satisfy demand. Its a a lower relief and won't strain the rubber. Check out the site for lots more pics of the kit in detail. Bill

You're welcome mate. You and Mark do great work and you have an uncanny ability to know just what I want! Thanks for the dragonflies, I've asked Mark if I can pay for it now(to secure a dragonfly!) and have him ship it with the Baryonyx when it's ready. I'm a regular on your site, it was the extra pics that sold me on the base. Cheers, Gareth.

The Bone Yard Kit has been on a back burner for a while. Anyone who looks at the Prehistorix site will know its been updated and expanded much further and is now called 'Hell Creek'. Nothing like a bit of hyperbole to get the interest going. If you visit the site and look for product news you will see a picture of the kit instructions and hopefully this will be a bit of a teaser. The original clay parts are now awaiting mailing to Mark in the USA tomorrow. It will soon be a nicely cast big kit in a lovely box with nice graphics. We might even throw in the odd dragonfly for anyone who didn't get one with their swamp. Its designed to go between or be mixed and matched with the Horned and Spiked dinosaur kits. take a look!

If you take the small parts off the base and use them elsewhere and just add the small tree its just right to add a horned dinosaur. The bones aren't very tall in relief so it will be level enough for your Dino to stand securely. Just think about the fun you'll have deciding where to put all the other items.

For Prehistorix fans, here is an update on the Hell Creek /Boneyard kit. Firstly the sculpt and some moulds have made their way across the Atlantic to USA HQ so all materials are in Mark's capable hands. If you want to see the main parts there is a photograph on my Pinterest account. uk.pinterest.com/voycestog/hell-creek-bone-yard/You will also see the instructions which will show you everything you get which is the three part base has a built in Utahraptor skeleton/remains. The end section has a small basking lizard too which looks really nice. Along with this there is a broken cycad with ferns sprouting from one branch. There are some horsetails, several free standing bones, three small based bone clusters, one with a snake and to top it all off nicely a sleeping terrestrial crocodile. Lots of the parts can go anywhere you like to improve existing bases and the third base section fits on any horned dinosaur base. Manufacturing starts as soon as Mark and I can scrape together the costs (Pay day looms!). We already have a handful of orders which means the first three are already reserved. |
