I get the non-aurora styrene dino series confused, but my understanding is the following:
- the AMT dinosaur models are just rereleases of these Airfix dinos, right? Is there any that don't overlap?
- Pyro/Lifelike - same, and ancient (1950s -1970s).
- Lindberg - they have me a bit confused. I know they have some of the Pyro/Lifelike kits rereleased (Brontosaurus), but presumably they produced some original molds in connection with Jurassic Park, like the updated T-rex, the Raptor, and Dilophosaurus. Their Corythosaurus seems to be the AMT/Airfix mold, right?
- Tamiya, all original, in two separate series (Diorama and not).
- Aurora 1990s (Polar Lights) New molds for T-rex, Pteranadon and Triceratops.
- Monogram/Revell - reissues of Aurora's Prehistoric Scenes only, plus Revell issued mini-versions of 6 of those kits.
Pleased confirm/correct/expand upon the above.

Speaking for the Pyro/LifeLike kits: The original Pyro editions have long boxes & elaborate graphics typical of the period. Pyro then went to the flimsy white "Prehistoric Monsters" boxes, which were then re-used and re-branded by LifeLike. (Some LifeLike kits have Pyro instructions. Both companies' versions all have "Pyro" legal marks on the kit parts themselves.) Later - in the early 1980s, I think - Life/Like released the series in slightly more modern-styled boxed, with photographs of the kits. One is at eBay now: www.ebay.com/itm/LIFE-LIKE-PREHISTORIC-MONSTERS-CORYTHOSAURUS-VINTAGE-/230664861264Then there are several Lindberg editions: Lindberg released most - if not all - of the Pyro/LifeLike dinos back in the late 1980s, in boxes similar to the earlier 1980s LifeLike edition - with even more uninspired package graphics of the completed models. Here's a current eBay auction of one as an example: www.ebay.com/itm/1987-Lindberg-BRONTOSAURUS-Dinosaur-Model-Unbuilt-/200564212831In the 1990's Lindberg released some of the Pyro/LifeLike kits alongside new kits of the Jurassic Park dinos when the movie series was current. The Pyro/LifeLike T-Rex kit from the old herd was replaced in that assortment, so to speak, by the new Jurassic Park T-Rex. I believe this is when the Stegosaurus tooling was given texture on its hide that it didn't have previously. Current eBay auction for the Jurassic Park release of the modified Pyro/LifeLike Stegosaurus: www.ebay.com/itm/Jurassic-Park-Stegosaurus-Dinosaur-Model-Kit-Lindberg-/150521358358Recently, that Jurassic Park assortment was re-released, including the 1990s Pyro/LifeLike offerings. These are in shops now, and popping up at some liquidators like Ollie's and whatnot, as part of an extensive assortment of vintage Pyro and Hawk re-releases. I only have the Triceratops from this most-recent series, which is identical to the 1970s LifeLike edition. So, we've got at least 7 different editions of the very old kits! Quite lenghthy life span for a product, eh?

"Their Corythosaurus seems to be the AMT/Airfix mold, right?" It's actually the pyro Corytho, probably the best of the pyro series(and based on Burian's painting). Airfix did have a very nice Corythosaurus of their own though.

So AMT also rereleased Pyro kits too - wow, they certainly were enduring. Thanks so much for all of the additional information - that clarifies a lot. Really interesting that the Stego got retextured too.
I know lifelike had a protoceratops - was that also a Pyro kit? It seemed different than the other Pyro kits, although there's other inconsistencies among them (the only T-rex and Bronto look far more primitive than the Triceratops, Dimetredon, Cory, etc.)

Amt/Ertl and MPC re-released the Airfix kits. They never carried the Pyro kits. Life-like and Lindberg had that honor. Someone released a special version of some of the Pyros(not sure who, perhaps Life-Like)that included a larger diorama setting which featured new additional animals and plants. The larger base was made of a styrofoam-like material! Mpc released some of the Airfix dinos in the 80's as part of the "fundemsions"lline. The didn't use all from the original group, but most. When Amt(90's) re-released the Airfix kits they left out, as far as I know, many of the originals,(pteranodon, corythosaurus, ankylosaurus, brontosaurus and dimetrodon). Airfix's corytho was unique, and never part of the Pyro/Lindberg line. The protoceratops was Pyro's, and besides their Corytho, the best of the Pyro series.

Has anyone worked with Horizon/ Jurassic Park series (not Lindberg) and/or has anyone worked with vinyl kits? "Descriptions" make it sound challenging, and.......well pictures of the kits do show a lot of cutting and modifying for fit. Not as clean as styrene or resin, I assume.
Sorry, I seriously have never worked with a vinyl kit................ I think.....

Hi! yup, I've worked with Horizon and Japanese Vinyl kits. They're actually easier to build than styrene..... I stick the parts that need to be trimmed in hot water, which softens the part, then I use a sharp xacto blade to cut and trim. You'll need a super glue to glue the pieces together and use acrylic paints to paint 'em.... Oh, also for filling in the seams... I used 2 part milliput. Hope this helps.....

Nice work! Especially love the "slime" for detailing. Also appears the paint re-acts more vividly on this material. Thank you (and I assume your "guest") with the construction tips - may have to try moving into this direction/ collection.

Vinyl is different, but not harder. Just a slightly different methodology. The biggest issue is paint type. Enamel paint will never cure on vinyl. It's a chemical reaction thing. So you have to primer with either a lacquer or acrylic primer first. To form a barrier.
Also, bigger kits need to be filled with something. Otherwise, you run the risk of it collapsing under it's own weight over time.
But they are easier than styrene kits in other ways. A lot less seams to fill. Better parts fit. More detail and much more dynamic poses.

Simple question. Until recently I never new that Revell had released Jurassic Park/Lost world kits kits. I have all the Lindberg kit issues for the film. I've recently picked duo the Revell Raptor Duo and the Rex. What other JP/LW related kits did Revell do and is there a LW rex by Revell that is different to the JP rex. Anyone help so I can compile a list?
