The scaly and furry fauna get all the attention, but the Prehistoric Scenes kits also featured examples of flora as well. Case in point: This primitive tree that came included in the old Aurora Spiked Dinosaur kit is about the only thing I have of the kit I was working on when I had to move suddenly. The big dino was airbrushed and boasted a color scheme I have to struggle to remember. I didn't photograph anything, leaving the dino behind. The quasi-palm tree needs more coloration, but here it is. Attachments:

Tree from another angle. A little bland. Needs more touches of color here and there. Attachments:

These fat little quasi-palms (Cycads?) came with the Jungle Swamp kit. I threw in the "Fubar-saurus" just for the hell of it. Attachments:

Another shot of the Jungle Swamp cycads. I wish I had the Eohippus to add, but he's stripped of paint and a little on the fragile side. Attachments:

Why do you call the Compy a Fubar-saurus?
Thanks for posting these. I actually love the trees and other environmental diorama aspects of the Prehistoric Scenes kits. I'm always picking up cheap parts from the swamp kits to "add to the jungle" I'm hoping to someday make, heh.

Someone took a short-cut when sculpting this little critter! Compsognathus was rooster-sized and very narrow through the body. The finished sculpt was lifted clean from a Soviet artist's rendering which was fanciful from the beginning. GREAT job on some of the other denizens of Jungle Swamp who were much smaller, particularly Archaeopteryx and the little pterodactyls. If more Prehistoric Scenes kits are produced, I'd like to see some of the small dinos get their due. Attachments:

The rendering wasn't that unusual at the time - the Compys in the original Charles Knight photo that was used as inspiration by Bill Lemon for his Aurora Swamp Kit look pretty similar (although obv Solonevich sketch was used for that critter):

Wow! That tidbit about the Solonevich compy is a real gem. I'll have to file that away for later... :-)

Close up of the scales on the Jungle Swamp large palm tree. These were filled in ala double-action airbrush. An approach that proved too daunting! One thing: I didn't want a brown color scheme on the tree. I went for greens. Attachments:

Built up and propped for a photo. The little pit is where a small flying reptile is pressed in. Greenish tan. I never glued the fronds into place. It would have been impossible for me to store. Currently, the whole tree trunk is being stripped. Attachments:
