Hey folks, I'd like to know if you have a single PS box you like the best out of the entire line. For me, it's the JUNGLE SWAMP! (image courtesy of auroraprehistoricscenes.com) Why? I love the entire scene it evokes. This was a favorite kit of mine since it first came out when I was a little kid- that scenario of the small bog and lush jungle settings filled with all sorts of primeval creepy crawlies tickled my little preschool-age imagination! THE JUNGLE SWAMP is my favorite PS box art, however, it is not my favorite kit. I'll leave THAT for another thread!

Jungle Swamp is among my favorite box arts (and was also my first PS kit!), but the real winner for me is Flying Reptile: So much of the dinosaur media I enjoyed at the time of my youth when I also first collected the Prehistoric Scenes was filled with stylized, moody colors and lurid landscapes - things like the film AT THE EARTH'S CORE and the TUROK SON OF STONE comic book. Many of the Prehistoric Scenes' package art follows the same style: Styracosaurus, Allosaurus, Jungle Swamp... but Flying Reptile's sunset tones and rich, menacing purple sky really leap right off the box at me and convey a world of menace and "prehistoric monsters".

Absolutely! There's something very JONNY QUEST/SCOOBY DOO-ish about the depiction of the pteranodon standing on its feet, beak raised defiantly up and glaring down towards you (the kid holding the box!). Ok, I changed my mind- FLYING REPTILE is the BEST!

Mine is the sailback I like the bright colors, and the fact that the box, looks just like the actual kit. Which was kind of rare for Aurora.

You're right, it's my favorite now too!

The Spike Dino "Styracosaurus"! The Red sky and Green beast and the mysterious overall darkness appealed to my senses. Pteranodons box came close with the purple and burnt orange coloring

All good choices - the art really was part of what made this series special.
I also love the Styracosaurus and the Pteranodon art - never managed to get those kits as a kid, and really coveted them, especially the "spiked dinosaur" (love the tree in the art too). Personally, I'm biased towards the diorama kits, since they promised such adventure - the original cave art, with the allosaurus, is probably the one that intrigued me the most then, and I still love it today. I also really love the Swamp and the Tar Pit.

Actually, what hooked me the most, was the side pane artwork. That is what really got my imagination going, as well as the lust to get the series.

That's interesting - I really liked the side art on the 71 kits that integrated the kits - showing the Cave/Neanderthal/Flying Reptile/Allosaurus in one scene together, and the Cro-Magnons/Tar Pit/Sabertooth in the other - even though that art isn't anywhere near as sophisticated as the cover art (the Allo looks almost like a child's drawing), the combinations really fostered an integrated environment that made them seem fun to play with together.

The original painting for the Jungle Swamp was up on Ebay a couple of years ago. It’s beautiful and I wish I could have bought it. My favourite though has got to be the T Rex art, with the bleak, cold background. It’s very imposing.

The cave box art with the allosaurus, why? Because he (the allo) seems to be casually licking his left paw, while waiting for the right moment to pounce on a cro-mag when the time comes! -S'kid
