Three-Horned Dino frill variation

As I was getting side tracked form my Cave build up I noticed the frill on the Trike on the older REVELL reissue has small indentations on three spots on the right side and 4 on the left. (pictures right side) It's consistent on multiple kits from the older series but does not appear on my original Aurora kit. . Has this been broached, when did it change? Whats the scoop?

I don't know if this helps but over on Dencomms site, Andy Yanchus mentioned a bit about the Vampi kit and her "camel toe" because of the rate of cooling of the injected plastic. I wonder if this is the same recourse. Here's the link if you want to read it:
