Thought I'd sign on and show the stages of painting this Allosaur. It's a new release kit, I cleaned up the seams and filled the palms of the hands/claws in with epoxy. I removed the drool from the mouth. I could spend more time on the seams but it is good enough for me. The base I picked up a few years back, it's a resin recast... I just forget who I got it from maybe Moebius? Anyway, I'm going to run with purples, pinks and reds on this model and really have no idea how it will turn out, but will just adjust the painting as I go. GV

Since I really want the colors to glow I have started with a coat of gloss white... we'll see what happens. The base is primed in tan, it will be challenge in itself with lava pools and all. I've been looking at some other builds to see how others have handled painting it. Am using enamels and will use an airbrush. GV

Looking forward to seeing your colors come to life. I've built 3 or 4 of these and always cut the drool off, the next one I do I promised myself to leave it on. Rob

Looks good so far. The base was probably from Borealis. They are the ones that used to offer them. The Parts Pit promoted them pretty heavy when they first came out.
As for the kit. I look forward to seeing how you do the base. That is the biggest downfall of my build-up. The base just doesn't look right, and it detracts from the rest of the kit. It's one of the few models in my collection that is on the "re-do list".

Thanks! Yeah, that was were I got it from — Borealis. Glad I picked it up, over the years in different hobbies I have found that if someone is making something and you want it, you better get it right then because next year they will probably not. Agree - I am not worried about painting the Allosaur, heck you could paint him one color, and just detail the eyes, mouth and claws and he'd look darn good, but that base I've been looking at lava flow photos on the web, and still am just not quite sure - it is a hard one to figure out!
