Okay, I was thinking we could set up a thread of finished models by the model type. So here is the Spiked Dino Thread. Hope you all like the idea. GV

Excellent build I just finished mine and will post soon. I'm doing everything to get the whole collection done this year. Model on.

Great stuff sooooo far! Are you suggesting "Anybody" place their build on this post too?

Yeah - Anybody! I think it would be great to have a whole thread with a few pics of everyones Spike build in it - not to mention a great reference for those that haven't painted yet to get ideas. The whole collection done in the year if I can get four done this year I'll be happy! Heck, I'd settle for two new ones done! But, my kids are just hitting the able to build models age... Great stuff sooooo far! Are you suggesting "Anybody" place their build on this post too?

Man those look very cool — I can see the difference the black wash has on yours Steven, just great! I was tempted to go that way but wanted the color intensity to stay up and not dull down, but yours still really pops! Are you using enamels or acrylics?
Trevor - that is a wild looking Spike, I love it! Oh, and the eye color is great.
The Styracosaurus is one of my top favorites of the Scenes. GV

This was one of the first kits I used acrylics on. Since they removed lead from the enamels, I haven't had much luck with 'em.

Here's mine, pretty simple dry brush job. Working on the Trike along with the cave now. Rob

Liking the more traditional colors like a rhino or elephant the stark white horns really look great. The original sculpts of these are just so good, it doesn't matter if it is dry brushed or airbrushed they paint up so darn well. After seeing this one I'm thinking I may do my triceratops in grays.

My Spiked Dino is a really simplistic build, and is more a homage of childhood memories than a snazzy buildup. He's actually the only PS from my childhood collection that's still in my possession! In light of that, I just added a tiny bit of color to him. His tree trunk is from the latter Monogram edition (which I also have from my childhood, but it is incomplete in my salvage bin), with a tiny bit of color added. I do actually have the Aurora edition of the tree trunk tucked away. All that green is original exposed unpainted plastic. I love the old Aurora colors, and prefer to expose as much of them as possible in my buildups. Not exactly as serious a kitbuilding method considering the quality of these kits' sculpts. But there was a toy-like quality I loved about the PS kits when I was a child, and exposing as much of the original colored plastics in my buildups is how I keep that aspect of them alive.

That's one of the things I really like about your builds Ray. They remind me of what I did when was a kid, and what Aurora intended. They made them those colors so you wouldn't have to paint them too much for them to be acceptable, and fun to play with.

Agree - it's really a merit of these kits at just how good they look with just the eyes and mouth painted! Though I do like the bases painted - great combo Ray!

One of my favourite scenes. I think these are a great range of build ups. Andy that's great, I love the cheeks and the chopped teeth. It looks the business.
