Here's Drac coming along. Basecoated in "Reptilicus Green". After the stubborn seams were sanded away, I hit his suit in a very opaque black/green instead of black. His undead, sun-sensitive skin started with a little Tamiya flat flesh mixed with light gray and really diluted with acrylic floor wax (FUTURE). This went on lightly and didn't completely mask the green underneath. Since I was out of flat white, I mixed gloss white with flat light military gray to get his formal wear shirt and vest the shade I wanted. His hair won't be black, either. I found an effective dark color by mixing dark brown with flat navy blue. It doesn't show, but the sewer grate at the base of the stairs features Prehistoric Scenes critters from the Sailback Reptile kit: A spider and the partial skeleton of a lizard. Attachments:

Untouched close-up photo of Drac's head and shirtfront. The Silly Putty masking didn't completely line up with the edges of his coat. A few touch ups are in order. His medal needs a crimson ribbon and maybe some bluish shadows to really make the details of the shirt come up. The face requires a lot of delicate washes and dry-brushing to make him look like a vampire. Attachments:

I like this build up a lot. I remember in the seventies getting some Aurora monster kits, I think some of them were in a different series to this. The Wolfman and The Creature which had glowing parts and some luminous scenery. As a kid I found myself in a quandary, should I paint the lot and loose the glowing parts or paint everything and leave them. I painted the lot, thinking that at eleven, I was too old for childish gimmicks. I remember this kit, or a similar one, quite well and how I tried so hard to get the ribbon detail right with my primitive equipment. I always end up making him look as though he'd been shot in the chest. Something tells me your going to have a bit more success than I.

Dracula's assembly isn't challenging. Some things to watch for: the hands are terrible. They are not cast as solid pieces, but fit together in that old Aurora way with a seam that has to be hidden. You will have to file his grip on both hands to safely admit the candle and the key ring. Not quite done, yet. I need time for my eyes to uncross after painting his tuxedo shirt. Rebounding from misstep involving purplish red, I used 90% alcohol to wipe down to the green base coat and start over again. I shot some informal pics. Just a few more hours of work and he's done. Finished (at least I should know when to quit) Dracula. Aurora was showing some caution this time around and the monster kits had no shock value to them.

You did a fantastic job on him. One of my least favorite kits of the MOTM or MS. People rag on the PS people but their essential to the series. I have 3 of each with a possibility of gaining more in the future for some more kit bashes. I as lucky enough to get an optional set of legs and arms for my drac. So, after that said, I will get another drac to display him with these optional parts and the MS base.

Excellent job,I just came across my heavily mangled version of this (and a few more) at the bottom of my "graveyard kits" box in the cellar.

Excellent job,I just came across my heavily mangled version of this (and a few more) at the bottom of my "graveyard kits" box in the cellar. If there's a Hyde, a Jekyll (or especially a Wolfman) in that bunch, I'll make an offer.

I actually found both Jekyll and Hyde on ebay for very reasonable prices in the last couple months.
Now, the Wolfman OTOH, no such luck.

well sorry guys,I do have the wolfman, but he is missing an arm,if memory serves he was launched at me many many years ago by an irate girlfriend! I have Drac, frank,Jekyll, wolfie, the Creature and for some reason the only bit left of Hyde is the lamppost! Also in the box a very sorry looking Sevans Dalek and Davros, possibly due a repair session on all the above.

I was quick enough to snap up a resin MOTM Wolfman that CultTVman had out a few years ago. Don't know if he still has them for sale or not but that was one kit I had to have and didn't think it would ever see the light of day in styrene again. Now, Monarch Models said that the Drac and Jeckyll/Hyde will be a "go" in Styrene with extra parts too! This excites me too cuz I never had J/H before. Still trying to build my MS army with whatever comes available from re-released Auroras and MS add-ons. Jim Webb, of Jim and Judy's, has a Deluxe Dr.'s Den that expands the MS realm. My grail kit from him though is the Iron Maiden. Couldn't afford it at the time and lost out on the opportunity. One day, I'll get one.

I came up with a new way to shoot monster models under minimal lighting. Works better than the blue background, I think.

Very effective and moody shot.
