Every time I look at the base piece (#25) for the Sailback Reptile, I get the feeling there was suppose to be something between the rocks, anyone know the story? Seen here on Trev's page. link

I've only had the Revel re-issue in the past, but I scored a monogram one off e-bay. It was moulded in black and supplied with luminous paint. It had both base parts. When I saw this gap I looked for the part that fitted in it. I thought it was either a snake or some kind of tall rock section. After digging about and eventually reading the instructions which I never usually do (LOL)I realised there was nothing there. In the end I thought it might complement one of the other kits. I thought perhaps it fits one of the swamp trees and the rocks support it?

That's right! It fits the pterosaur tree that can be taller or broken off. I think maybe the Aurora version instructions show this.

Somewhere on my harddrive I have a pic of the sailback with tree built up. It was a pic I grabbed from either Cult's site, or from John F Greene's site.

Recently got a clutch of green box Revell Dinosaurus kits form E bay this month. Ankylosaur, Triceratops and a Dimetrodon. They were missing their sealed wrapper so I looked inside them all just for excitement. The Dimetrodon had the two part base and a bottle of dried out glow in the dark paint. But it also had in green plastic the swamp plants and the Meganeura(SP) dragonfly. i was chuffed with this as my other most complete base is missing these items. What I did notice and this is the base related bit. The instruction sheet only showed the half base and the extended bit was simply blanked off without even re-drawing it. The bits were all there in the box though. Was this dinosaurus version also issued with the half base? The ankylosaur has the partial base too. I also scored the mammoth but it hasn't arrived yet. is that one of the issues without any base?

For some reason the dragon fly and ferns were included in the Ankylosaur box I believe this happened with the Revell Germany issues? Andy

This solves the mystery of why I found the sailback parts in the Ankylosaur box. They were all opened so I had a rummage. I prefer open kits I like to just gaze happily at the parts! I just thought with them being open the seller had popped the bits in the wrong box when he put them away. My instructions do end abruptly as if somebody copied it with a piece of paper over the bit they wanted to hide. As you said just as if they hadn't let it finish printing. I'm bidding on a green box revel spike at the moment. Its listed as unopened with the 'tape still' in place. It doesn't have a sealed wrapper around it. What I did notice about the kits was that the original bar code had a secondary sticker laid over it on all the boxes. Probably because the stock number etc on the code was German and thy replaced it with a UK one. If this is the case, if the kits were sealed in the UK, surely the over sticker would have been lost with the seal wrapper. Most kits in the UK in the 80s and nineties were taped not sealed. Especially Airfix. But if I do see any sealed ones I will contact you (Tay) and I am more than happy to pick it up and ship it over at basic cost. They do seem more common over here than the monogram re-issues or the original kits. I suspect that its because the packaging looks more educational and Airfix like.

Andy, That Sailback of yours is really a tasty build up. Its worth staring a two part base kit to use the palm tree isn't it. Real atmosphere you have there. Kurt's sailback on the main site is also a real tonic!

What I did notice about the kits was that the original bar code had a secondary sticker laid over it on all the boxes. Were they by chance the glow-paint versions? They have the sticker in the bottom corner. I've only ever owned one of those, and I can't remember if it was shrink-wrapped, or if it was just taped shut. (thinking with those round dot type pieces of tape) The only Revell-Germany sealed kit I have is a regular one. Spiked dinosaur. And that is shrink wrapped. Ideally, I will eventually get all RG versions sealed and open. Sealed for the collection, and open to document them.

I noticed only the Dimetrodon had the sticker in the corner. It also had the full but dried up paint bottle with it. Its the second green box Sail-back I have acquired and both were glow kits, molded in black. The first one is genuinely missing the dragonfly etc. Strangely though for the fist one the vendors description mentioned they were missing so they probably had one of the original PS kits and thought either they'd lost it or it was a factory mistake. The others were just standard Revell kits. The sticker shows a range of glow kits. Were these molded in black as well? I think these would be pretty rare now. I can imagine a lot got built and smothered in the glow paint by kids who weren't particularly dinosaur fans. It must have excited kids. I could see the reason for the glow in the dark parts in the Aurora horror kits but why a glow dinosaur? Just can't see it. Must just be me.

Don't know if they were all black, or even exactly which kits were produced as glow versions. I have only owned one, and have pics of a couple other boxes, but not what was inside. Would have been cool to see an all black Trex though.

I have just got another Revell Greenbox triceratops, with the sticker on the corner saying its a glow kit. Box was sealed with four discs of tape but no shrink wrap I'm afraid. I opened it anyway. Curiosity got the better of me. Bags were sealed and it is molded in black. Looks weird. Thought the box was oversize because it was a big parcel. Realized I'd forgotten how big the kit was.

I know that current Airfix kits sold here in the US aren't shrinkwrapped - just have the tape discs holding the boxes shut. Guess its a lot cheaper to seal them that way.

Will do Tay. I'm away in Anglesey this weekend, but I'll get my new higher res camera out next week. I'll take some shots and send them over, it will help me practice. I'm quite happy to de bag the parts and do some overall parts shots as well as the box.
