As you might have already guessed, my name is Brent and I am new to this forum. I came across Trevor's website the other day and sent him am email telling him how impressed I was. He invited me to join, so here I am.
As a kid I was a huge dinosaur fan and had just about every dinosaur model available. But the PS line was without a doubt my absolute favourite. I started collecting them in 1973 and eventually had at least one of every kit. As an adult I have re-acquired a few of the kits. My prize possession is a Jungle Swamp kit (my all-time favourite) in mint condition with the original shrink-wrap. But mostly due to cost, I haven't committed myself to seriously building my collection.
I do have one bit of information that may or may not be of value. I read the note on Trevor's website about the Spiked Dinosaur kit being shipped in Three-Horned Dinosaur boxes. I can confirm from personal recollection that this error was shipped to stores in the U.S. In 1973 my Dad bought me a Three-Horned Dinosaur kit at Kmart. When I opened it I was disappointed to find green Spiked Dinosaur parts. (I already had the Spiked Dinosaur.) The next day my Mom took me to exchange it. It turned out that every Three-Horned Dinosaur box they had contained Spiked Dinosaur parts. My apologies if this is old news.

Welcome. And no, that isn't old news. I had only heard about it happening overseas.
I've got to ask. Did you also have a bunch of dinosaur books when you were a kid? I know I had bunches of them. And I'm fairly sure I was reading dinosaur names before I was actually reading books.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. Regarding dinosaur books, yes I had quite a few and unlike my dinosaur models, I still have a few of them. My much older brothers were also dinosaur fans, so I inherited some of their books which were published in the 50s and 60s.

I'm just going to piggyback on Brent's Hi Everyone thread to introduce myself. I just signed up a few minutes ago, but I feel like I know many of you; I've been reading here and getting all kinds of great PS model building tips for several months. Yes, sometimes it takes a while to take action. I got my first PS kits in 1971 when I was 8 years old and got one model of each kit as they came out. I loved those kits and the fact that the bases fit together. What a concept! About the time I found this site, I pulled my PS kits out of their big box in the closet and set them all up again, as I have done at least once every few years for the last four decades. I had no PS boxes or instruction sheets or nameplates, just the models themselves. Most of them were painted and glued by me or my brother in the early 70's, but they are still mostly in good condition. Recently, I started to fix up and repaint some kits, which led to finding Trevor's site and this forum, and to eBay. Now there is an addiction I need to be careful of. Eventually I will be glad to share photos and PS childhood memories, but for now I just wanted to say Hi and that I am glad to be here participating in a group that feels the way I do about Prehistoric Scenes.

Hi Glen! Glad to see you aboard.... I think we all have our own personal stories about the P/S line of kits... the stores we bought 'em in... building and playing with them, even making out own "Harryhausen" Super 8 movies. Gotta run..... See you on the boards... :}

Welcome. I always love hearing stories about how people got hooked. How they have enjoyed the line over the years, etc. Look forward to seeing your kits eventually.

Welcome Brent and Glen!
As a kid I had all of the PS kits in which I painted and set up. They came out okay for the skills of a kid. When I moved out of my parents house I left my entire collection behind. Over time I guess my parents thought that I didn't want them and got rid of them.... Fast forward thirtyfive- plus years later... I began reacquiring the kits a few years ago and was able to purchase all of the original line on eBay. Some kits I have more than one of.... I am gradually working on gluing, filling the seams, priming and painting my collection. If only I had the time now that I had as a kid :-) Nevertheless I am having a lot of fun working on these kits (along with various cars, choppers, and trike model kits). As an adult I spend way more time on working on these than I ever did as a kid.
Over the last few years I've also purchased a number of PS add-on resin kits from Steve (Primeval Plastics/Aroara) and Mike from Alchemy Works. These are generally more expensive that what I paid for the original line on eBay. The are also a blast to build and the complement the original line very well and integrate well as one large diorama. My current project is the Alchemy Plateosaurus which I posted a few pictures of last week just prior to priming the model. This evening I did find some time to put a coat of primer on the kit. Then I'll work on my painting scheme. I'll post some more pictures either during or after the painting is complete.
Anyways, glad to have both of you on the board!
Ken

Hi artdeco, I need to tell you that your tag line was influential in my accepting PS as a hobby. I teach elementary school which keeps me pretty busy, so for years, I did not have anything I would call a hobby. After finding this forum and reading a bit here including several of your posts, I decided I had better go ahead and jump into this PS hobby so no one thinks I've got a mistress. :-).

Thanks for the warm welcome. In many ways this place feels like home. Not my home. At my home, no one shares my enthusiasm for dinosaurs and other prehistoric pals. This is my PS home where everybody gets it.
Ken, I only just got started on the Add-ons, too late for some and almost too late for all. The Alchemy Works Plateosaurus was my first ever resin kit and the learning curve was steep. It is built and has some paint on it, but I don't think it is done. Very cool model though.
My my next resin kit was the Parasaurolophus from Action Hobbies. I think they said it was the last one and it does have a few casting flaws, but it is now built. I need to patch up the seams and fill a major gap I created in the tail, then I was thinking I would add larger skin bumps to make it look more like the Cockrum illustration. I have not worked out a color scheme yet, but I love the build-ups in the gallery including what Trevor and Steve did with theirs.

I too am a teacher. High School. I've gone from a dabbler, to a collector and now a bit of a kit producer with somebody I met on the boards. There's something about prehistoric scenes. Once your hooked they keep popping up, even if you have a 35 year break!
