Has anybody thought of changing, or kit bashing, the legs on the Ceratopsians so they aren't the same on both kits? I know that the front ones are different in both kits but the back ones are the exact same. What about the tail(s) too?

I did for a moment! LOL! But my experience with PS kits is that its pretty difficult to bash the main parts on a major scale. Cutting and re modelling my Allosaurus head arms and legs was bad enough and they have clear knees jaw and elbows. Looking at those tree trunk legs is a nightmare. Plus you'd have to do at least three if you were positioning them so they sit flat and look natural. I wanted to do a trike with both its legs splayed out at the front as if it was a charging bull and it was bracing itself for the run. The best way for me to do it would be to start from scratch and build new using the textures from the old.

That would be an interesting idea. Get some different poses out of them.

I've successfully done a few pairs of back legs and a few front legs. A little putty here and there and some texture and voila, new legs. trying some experiments on the tail now. I'll show some pics soon...

That would be an interesting idea. Get some different poses out of them. With the different heads for the ceratops, why not some different legs? I don't have all the heads from Alchemy but I do have some nameplates of them just in case I don't happen to acquire the sets before D day of the add-ons!

Easier than you think. Its the thought process that's tough. Not so much the execution.

Here's the back legs ready for viewing.... Steve, Great work..... Can you tell us all the techniques you used to make those changes? How do you get the skin texture to blend in with the rest of the legs, or tail for that matter? How hard is it to pull off? Ken

Not as hard as I was thinking too. I just jumped in with both feet and figured what two legs I wanted to switch. then I decided what angle I wanted cut on and then cut. Test fitted the parts and added putty to help solidify. (Sometimes a glue bomb is necessary!) Or if the angle didn't fit right, just some sandpaper or file down where it needs to be lower or angled more. I used Aves Epoxy to blend and sculpt the areas that were joined. While still soft, I used a rounded tipped tool to press in the textures and presto! Believe me I'm no professional but I'm happy with it.
BTW, I just did two new ones for the front on my next Ceratops conversion.

Will you be offering? I've been toying with the same idea(s) for the allo and T-Rex conversions. Would love a little less "upright" out of my spinosaurus and ceratosaurus. Thought of working with some of thwe tails off of Tamiya and Pegasus to get something straighter......

Thought of working with some of thwe tails off of Tamiya and Pegasus to get something straighter...... Sorry, no. these are just one-offs. I understand what you're saying. You just want some of the kits a slightly different look from the original. I can't have 4-8 ceratopsians with all the same positioned legs and tails. the faces and body may stay the same in some respect but there are slight little things that can and will be done to differentiate them one from another. the Ceratosaurus i did years ago was changed a little. Cut off the spit, opened his mouth more, added an extra finger to give him 4, and adjusted the legs at the ankles. I know when i do another, there will the same adjustments plus a few others. www.tylisaari.com/prehistoricscenes/galtlery/displayimage.php?pid=1085&fullsize=1www.tylisaari.com/prehistoricscenes/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=1082&fullsize=1
