Back when I rejoined the hobby I wanted to get the MS kits.
I had several as a kid, and they always were on my radar. The prices were way high on them though, so I settled for having a few incomplete builds I got cheap on ebay.
Then the reissues hit.
I said 'Cool!'
Now I could get them and build them. But I swore I wouldn't let it get like my Prehistoric Scenes obsession.
I'd just get a couple of each to build and have fun with.
Then the Graveyard Scenes came out. Cool addition to the line. Again, to build and expand the look of things.
Then Pete reissued his cool pieces. And I drooled over the other additions to the line. But the set pieces were out of my price range. Again, though, all of this was all directed towards building and displaying.
I avoided buying any of the Dencomm stuff. It was pretty cool, but it didn't really add to the finished display in my mind. The accessory pieces were neat, but more in a collectible sort of way, rather than an enhancement to the build.
And the rest of it was all paper product. Catalogs, posters, repro boxes, etc.
Then last fall, I saw an auction I couldn't pass up. I got 2 sets of the five boxes Dencomm made for like $40 shipped.
It was cheap, and the boxes are cool. Especially since I am sure I will never own the actual Dracula or J&H kit that were only produced in Canada.
But today, I think I may have strayed too far down the slippery slope.
It started innocently enough (these things always do).
I saw an auction for Doctor Deadly's Daughter. You know, the Canadian version of the Victim.
Super low starting price. So I put it on my watch list. Curious to see how high it would go.
I do this quite a bit, just out of curiosity. I checked the sellers other auction, and he had an original Victim for sale too. Again with a low starting price. So I watched that one also.
FF to today. This morning, both kits were still pretty low. I mean DDD was up to $30-something, but that was much lower than I thought it would be. We had to leave and do some running around. Figured I wouldn't be home to watch the fireworks at the end. But we did get home before either ended. Got home with 9 minutes left in the DDD auction. It was sitting around $43 then. I said to myself that was too much to take a shot at.
But, while I was unloading the car, I started thinking about it more. That is only like twice what a reissue goes for.
It is original, nice box, Canadian instructions, and unstarted. I paid more than that for my Canadian Cromagnon Woman, and that isn't nearly as rare.
So, I get done unloading the car and sit down at the computer. Just under a minute to go.
I'll throw a bid on it and see what happens.
Well, this happened
www.ebay.com/itm/321682434969
$51.99 Not even my max!
The regular version still had about 45 minutes to go and was sitting at $30.
I said, nah, I don't need that one too. $30, it's missing the extra arms, and has paint on it.
Again, too much time to think about it.
It is from the same seller, so I would save on shipping.
Would be nice to show both versions together.
Look again when it's under 3 minutes. Still sitting at the same price.
When am I going to see an original going this low again?
What the hell, I'll take a shot.

$31.99 Again, a few dollars under my max bid.
I should be happy.
I got both versions of the kit, with boxes and instructions for under $100.
It's a great deal, and I am happy about it. (especially since I actually have tax return money to spend)
But I also know myself. Now that I have one set of the boxes, I won't be able to let them sit there all alone.
I'm gonna want to get them all now
Just what I need. Another all-out collection on my hands.
