Guess who was actually at WF this year. Revell! First time at the show.
Anyway, I was asking about the dinosaurs, of course. They said that Revell-Germany will be reissuing them this fall. And they will be bringing some over to sell here in the states. Didn't have any details on which kits, or how complete they would be. But I am sure it will be much like the 2007 wave of kits.

Perhaps they will have the presence of mind to release the kits that still exist in full. Perhaps cash in a bit on the Jurassic World Movie.

I'm sure they will just do the ones they normally do. Being RG I am sure the sailback will have both base halves. Wonder if they will get the other parts in there, or if those will again be with the armored.
Atlantis is still talking about the tiger and bear, but if and when that may happen is anyone's guess. I told them, if they do do it. They should wait until after this next wave of reissues are out for a bit. That way more people will be on the hunt for more of the line.

Any idea if they will come to the states, when and how much? Last time the PS D.O.T. kits were averaging $35 a pop per kit with the T-rex a whopping $75. Haven't these kits pretty much paid for themselves over time? I'm still stoked about it and still want to get 2 or 3 of each for later. (Ceratops kits might be 4 or 5!) The other thing I think would be cool is if they switch up the colors too. Like a Gray or Tan T-rex, Orange Spike or a Brown Trike. Something different and a bit more exciting.

Coming out of RG, I wouldn't be surprised if they are "pre-painted" to some degree......

Nah. RG won't prepaint them. And they did do some different colors in their issues. The Revell rep said they would be bringing some over here as well. Not sure if that means they will import the actual RG release, or if they will have them boxed for US sales. I suspect that is what happened with the 92-93 wave. I can't remember what the MSRP was on the kits last time. Somehow I forgot to add that info for the bigger kit in that last wave. Though the smaller kits was $13. I seem to think the bigger kits were $20-22 range. www.tylisaari.com/prehistoricscenes/07revell.html

The last time I saw the kits at the hobby store, the Trike and Woolly mammoth were 35 bucks. So, I don't know if the LHS was price gouging or what but it was a little steep for my taste, so I didn't get any. It's sad when the new ones are more expensive than the old ones offered on ebay! I'm hoping I'm wrong. I'm hoping they are less than 20 this time around!

Yeah, a lot of places had the bigger kits for around $30. But there were plenty of places online to get them cheaper. The key though, was getting enough to compensate for the shipping costs. I just hope R-G uses different box art this time. I still haven't sorted out just how many releases there were from them, as they used the exact same box art and instructions for all of them.

I bought the German dimetrodon some time around 20 yrs ago when I believe they were making two different kits; don't remember what the other was but think it was the allosaurus. this one is named dinosaurus on the box. if I remember correctly I think I paid in the neighborhood for 40 bucks or more for the thing. I hope the high price was because they weren't really made to be sold in the US at the time and someone besides Revell had them shipped over here. its been a long time but I seem to remember them putting part of the armored dinos base in with this kit.

They had the last wave on sale in the UK but in very few places, Bigger stores like Model Hobby etc. Luckily most of them ended up in discount shop chains and were being sold off cheap. I got a spike, a trike and a mammoth one day for $2.99 each which is less than $5. i hated the packaging, at least the Dinosaurus boxes were a nice dark green colour. I went around the county buying them up and kept several. Sold off the multiples of the mammoth on E bay a year or so later and bought my Atlantis rex from the profits. But the Fang, Klaw and tank style boxes really were a half hearted attempt. No wonder they didn't sell very well. The klaw was grey and I had the urge to spray one orange just for a laugh.

I hope I'll find the autumn 2015 release, though there are hardly any local hobby shops left round here and those that are mostly concentrate on Airfix, though with some Revell as well. I hope they change the boxes from the 2007 issue to something different, and ideally should use artwork rather than a photograph. It seems to be that kits, by any company, eg Airfix, Aurora, Tamiya, Revell, that use artwork become entrenched in people's memories. Kits with photographs on the box don't always do so well and have less appeal.

In case no one has noticed, the new RG kits are on ebay now. I know this German seller has them. I have 2 in the house right now. Armored and Sailback. From the back of the box, looks like there are only 6 coming from Germany. No flying or mammoth. Hope to throw a page together tonight about this most recent wave.

I was excited when I saw the rex on the back of the box. I immediately checked out the RG site catalogue. All the others were there and in the catalogue and a link to buy them. But you guessed it, no rex in the catalogue. Perhaps its for release at a later date depending on how well these sell?
