Ok! as my job as marketing manager for Prehistorix (I can call myself what I like!) I am pleased to announce our forthcoming kit. Fresh on the tails of the Baby Woolley mammoth in peril is Baby Woolley Rhinoceros. A cute little creature with its own modular base pining for its mother caught In the tar pit! Check out Marks facebook page or the Prehistorix website for up dates. I'm putting the update feature on tonight (UK time) so keep your eyes peeled. Its going to be a smallish kit so light on the dollars but no less fun! Oh yes and the hell creek diorama is on its way soon too. Start saving up your allowance!
Read the last post on this thread! Its ready!

I've just seen the baby Rhino and he's coming along nicely. Do not know about any base or extras included with him? Any word?

Well the rhino will have a base but not a massive one. I talked to Mark about it and he wasn't sure what he is doing but he'll make a decision soon, as I will keep bugging him until he does. World domination is our aim after all! But it will go near the tar pit. I suggested making a base to replace one of the scenes nearby that have an alternative position. I also suggested it could have a side that alternatively fits to the baby mammoth and have it hollering to warn it about the tiger. Whatever it is it will be great. The idea with the Rhino was to make a lower priced, compact kit. The big kits we have done lately are great and sold well, but hard work and turn out expensive. We thought a smaller kit would be a good idea and easy on the pocket for us and for you.

Why not make a little wedge shaped base to go between the tar pit and tiger? I know, the neman can go there, but I've never really thought it was a good place for him.

Thanks for the input, the base will indeed replace the Neanderthal man and be positional both sides of the tar pit.

The base is nearly done. It has rocks, a sabre-toothed skull an axe and some tufts of grass. Its amazing. Keep your eye on the prehistoric site for an update tomorrow.

Just an update about the baby woolly rhino. Firstly it will be called Woolly Rhino Calf and will be a bagged kit rather than boxed to reduce costs. The base is modelled and cast and the Rhino itself is at the casting stage, so not too long now. We have had a lot of interest in this kit so we will cast up a small batch and have them ready to go straight away. Feel free to list your intentions with Mark through Facebook or via the Prehistorix website so we can get an idea of numbers. If you have not seen it yet you are missing out so visit the site www.Prehistorix.wix.com its a cracker! Oh and there's a nameplate for it too!

I think that makes 3 items I still need to acquire. Which I will, but probably not until November.
I am curious which direction he finally took to mold that beast. There was a bit of discussion on FB about which would be the best approach.

Well Tay, funny you should ask because the Rhino as Mark pointed out isn't a straight forward investment cast or even a two part mould. Its a three parter! A plug for the underside and inside of the legs and a separate section for each side. Its Marks first three part mould and as I discovered the more parts the leakier it could be and they have to be held tight but not tight enough to distort. last night he was waiting for the thing to dry. Hopefully I'll get pictures tonight. Sad a sit sounds I can't wait to see how its turned out. Its a make my day situation!

I figured 3 part would be the way to go. I even gave him a link with a tutorial on how one could be done.

You are welcome. I was curious myself, which is why I went looking. I had an idea of something similar to that, but not quite the same as explained in that tutorial. I just knew it had to be possible. Especially looking at the parts break-down on some of Alchemy's kits.

Thanks Andy. Mark will be very pleased to the very positive reaction he has had to his sculpt from a variety of sources. The casting process has been a real learning curve. He's shifted quite a few already through E bay and we are giving away a free nameplate holder with each of the first batch as a bonus. We have a group of regular customers who we appreciate and think deserve a reward for sticking with us so far.
