Greetings all,
Dave here; Wonderfest CEO. I have an offer to all you PS Fans that I hope will make the show. I will offer space again this year to set up a PS display at the show alomg with security to watch the tables. I may provide up to four tables of space depending on what people might want to bring for display. Perhaps with some early pre-planning by all who want to participate a pretty interesting display could result. If there are a few folks intrested I might set aside a little time to have a PS lunch for folks if there are enough interested which i would be willing to sponsor as CEO of the show. Folks could meet and share their kit interest and even swap items and information if so inclined. My time at the show is very hectic; so a pre-planned get together would allow me to schedule the time in advance to talk the PS hobby with you all. Ideas and suggestions (such as a mini contest with a prize or two or a separete buildup only table) are welcome. Let me know what you think.

Dave originally made that post in the thread for last year's show. prehistoricscenes.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=30What an awesome offer Dave. So great, that I will make this a sticky here. I will also be putting a link to this thread on my website, and spread the word on the boards. I know how much of your time goes into the show, and I will do what I can to help with promotion, logistics, and brainstorming to make this be an awesome display. Rob and I kicked this around last year, and I have been thinking about it quite a bit. I know there were things I wanted to do last year that I just didn't have time to get to. And I know I want to bring some kits this year. The boxes were cool, and caught a lot of attention, but the kits are the stars. I'll be quiet now, as I don't want to monopolize the discussion. So, let's hear it from everyone else. What would you like to see? What can you bring?

Oh yeah. Just realized that we may have some people who don't know what Wonderfest is. For those not familiar with it. Wonderfest is an annual model convention held in Louisville KY every year. There site can be found here www.wonderfest.com/welcome.htmlIt is a weekend chock full of monsters, dinosaurs, scifi, and all kinds of other fun stuff. An awesome dealers room full of all kinds of goodies to buy. An amazing model contest filled with kits built so well, it will blow your mind. And through the whole weekend there are tons of activities. Guest speakers, modeling how-to demonstrations, movies, and hanging out with a hotel full of other people that love the same kinds of subjects we love. If you want to see some pics, I have stuff from the last 9 years that we have been going. www.tylisaari.com/models/shows.htm

That IS an excellent idea! It would be cool to have: * PS sketches, drawings, paintings, and other memorbilia to accompany the kits, if available. * Maybe Larry could share some of his "treasures" with all of us, since he knew Dave (Cockrum). * Displays of the kits (painted or unpainted?) put in their puzzle form. * Add-ons? I hope I can make it this year. Chances are 50-50 right now.

Well, I know I want to see all the kits assembled and put in their positions of the map. Need to find out how big the tables are, so I will know if the layout will actually fit on one of them though. Next, need to try and get enough people to comit built kits to put it together. I have some, but not all of them built. I hope to have my mammoth in the contest, so I won't be able to use that. IF I have to, I will snap together un-done kits to fill out the layout. But I would prefer to have others step up and bring theirs so we can make this happen.
I have a couple add-ons completed as well, and can bring a few others to show what they look like OOB, but a few more of those built as well would be nice.
I am hoping to blow-up a few items to make them easier to see/read. Just working out the logistics of how to display them, as nothing can be attached to the walls at the show.

The tables are 8 feet long by 30 inches wide. They can be arranged in different configurations. I'll see they are roped off.

When I do go (I won't say "if"!) my mode of transportation will be airlines and a carry on. That, unfortunately, limits the number and size of kits I could bring. If I could (now "if" is appropriate!) I'd bring the WHOLE lot with me! I could also ship a box of kits needed to someone who has cargo space, take it to the show, display it, repack it and send it back to me. Just a thought.

We can always put two tables together to make a 60 inch width. Also any items can be shipped to and from the hotel easily. We have a shipping company available for customers to send goodies home they can't carry.

My gameplan right now, is to spend the next month or so just getting the word out and getting people interested. (plan on starting thread on all the main hang-outs during the holiday weekend, to get some more eyes here and drum up some more interest) During that time we can kick around ideas and suggestions.
Then, once we get into 2011 and the hectic holiday time is behind us we can start working on firm commitments. And form our game plan from there.
If we generate enough interest, and get enough discussion going, I will make a special sub-board just for this subject. That way we can better organize things.

I've been quiet due to my not knowing if I can make it this year but I think building on what you guys did last year is perfect. Once you start asking, I wouldn't be surprised if you get a lot of volunteers. If I can make it I'll bring what I have done, boxes what ever you need. I can imaging Steve, with dinosaurs under both arms riding in a cramped airplane, great conversation starter. Who's going to paint the background mural?

I agree with the idea of setting up the "big puzzle." Here's my work in progress:

I have an original concept sketch for an item, as well as a blueprint or two. I'd be happy to bring to display if you're interested!

Nope.
Not until WF. For those who won't be able to attend, I will be putting images up on my site sometime after the show. Will probably post them here, before they hit the website though.

I'm on for Wonderfest and will do anything to help. Yay! Rob Cool! Will be swinging my attention that way in a couple weeks. Have a couple things here at home to take care of, then I will start working my connections to see what is what. Start firming things up and see where we are at.
