Awhile ago, I was approached to do a Aurora styled Dire Wolf kit for a model company. I've done sketches and drawings but nothing came to fruition as of yet. It's been about 3 years now and I don't see it happening anytime soon with them. SO, my questions is simple: "Would anyone like to see a Dire Wolf made and would you buy one if it was?" It would be a fairly small kit. About the size of a section of floor of the Cave. (Hollow) Resin cast.

So, in other words, just a bit smaller than the protoceratops. You know I would love to see it.

If done well, yes. Maybe with two different interchangeable heads. One snarling and one howling.

Well, lets say, like the Saber tooth... only half the size! The piece count is going to be a deciding factor. I'm thinking 6 to 10 pieces including the nameplate. I have a few sculptors in mind that I believe will do an excellent job. Base placement will be one of two places: By the Tar Pit (Where most wolves were found) and in the Cave (Floor section. Remember the floor section I borrowed from you awhile ago Trevor? ). "Snarling" face would be of choice, with a possible 2 sets of front legs (upright and crouching) so he could be in attack formation no matter what stance the modeler chooses. As far as the base goes, there will be rocks, grass, small tar pool (s), and a few bones...maybe a small tree/bush too! Sorry, no pic at this time.

I have a few sculptors in mind that I believe will do an excellent job. Would one of those sculptors be Jeff? I have to say, he has done an amazing job of capturing the feel of the line. Translating your vision into something that blends marvelously. As for placement, I would vote for the cave area. For several reasons. First, the tar pit is already crowded, especially if you have Alchemy's rhino. Second, it opens up a lot more options. It can be going after people in the cave. It can be going after the cave bear. Heck, it could even be taking on the mammoth. Also, if this happens, I would vote for making the base optional. That way it would be a little cheaper to buy multiples of them if you want to make a wolf pack, and use existing cave base pieces to place them on.

Stop that Trev, you are making me blush (thank you) I think a great place for the wolf would be right on top of the cave, looking down on the humans.

Hey Jeff. How's it going buddy? Welcome! Yes, Jeff would be one of the sculptors. I like the option of having just the wolf (with a nameplate of course) and maybe no base. That way it can be placed anywhere the modeler feels like staging him. It would also cut down on cost too. But if there is a base, I think I'll leave it where it was designed to go originally.

What I was saying, was make the base optional. Then people could buy the kit and base if they wanted, or just the kit, if that is what they wanted. Most people are probably going to want a base with their first kit. But if they want more than one, then a second base wouldn't really be desirable.
Something small-ish like this would open itself up for multiple kits, depending on the price.

Most people are probably going to want a base with their first kit. But if they want more than one, then a second base wouldn't really be desirable. That was kind of the plan with the Raptor! Only the base was included with each kit so they could sit side by side and expand out from there. Plus... These kits would have to be "pre-orders" so they could be special made for that particular customer. I don't want to be left with a bunch of bases nobody wants if I make the wrong calculation. Ouch!

Okay, I thought I'd share ONE of the concept sketches. Imagine this at 5 1/2 to 6 inches long! (* This is not the final design!)

I'm definitely interested in the Dire Wolf kit- I REALLY like the idea of a bunch of smaller "accessory" kits to add onto the original PS kits! I know I'd like to have an Eryops warily waddling past the sunbathing SAILBACK LIZARD, Dimetrodon

I like the idea of a base next to the cave. There is a pretty strangely shaped open area there. Would you please plug it up?
Cheers

You can plug it up with additional cave base pieces if you wish.

Well I'm a bit embarrassed now. I looked at the map again, and I would have sworn there was some oddly shaped base jutting into the space between the cave bear and mammoth bases. I have extra base parts to the cave too. Sweet.
That is one of my little concerns with all the add-on kits being produced: base compatibilty.
My first problem is solved. Thanks

I was going to start a new thread on this. My solution on the "HUGE" map that has now, albeit happily, yet savagely, presented itself to us,,,,,is to cut up the PREHISTORIC SCENES world into groups.
My plan is to display somewhat 'like' kits together.
The Cave, Cave people, and fur bearing animals together. So,,,, the Mammoth, Cave, Humans, Tarpit, Wholly Rhino add-on, Cat, and (fingers crossed it gets produced) Giant Sloth would make one display on a shelf. (Also my attempt at the Mammoth in a tarpit,,,,,,,,,,,since "someone" who we shall not mention LOST theirs and thereby it will not be made into a kit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not bitter)
Then, the swamp dio. The Iggy, Sail back, Swamp, Bronto in water, Scuto, and Sail back conversion in one dio. I would probably put the big Sauropod and Tyrannosaurus kit here.
Then just divide up the Horned Dinos and conversions with the Stego, and Para, Struthy, Allo, Anky, Proto, Raptor kits into two dios. (I'm probably forgetting a kit or two)
Then an oceanic dio. The Elasmo, Krono, Dunkleo, Ichthy (if it sees the light of day (yes, as of now, it has been sculpted to go next to the sail back, but it would be better in a salt water area)) and the Pteranodon nest at the top of a rocky cliff area that I will have to sculpt on my own, since no one else, with far superior sculpting skills is going to step up to the plate and make as a kit conversion!!!! No, I'm NOT JUDGING!!! SERIOUSLY,,,,I'M NOT VENTING ANY FRUSTRATION HERE!!!!!!!! NO WAY, NO HOW!
The PS universe is far too vast to support a one level layout map here.
The map area is getting so vast, its like a huge Scale Train layout.
If I don't cut up the map, it would require an entire room to display it in.
Anyway, that is my plan. I hope it makes sense.
