My first re-introduction to Prehistoric Scenes, in 1994! Their boxes were different here in the UK with a green background/surround, but one look at the mini kits and I was hooked on finding the full-size kits all over again.

I still have to get a hold of some of those UK versions, I don't have any of them for my collection yet.

The shop where I got my mini dinos was also where I got the full size Revell reissues - they had both 'sizes' on sale at the same time. The perfect shopping experience! Sadly, that model shop closed down about two years ago.
True to Revell reissue strategy, the mini dino version of the Sailback had only the rock half of the base!

I picked up all of these - kinda cute, but they can't have expected broad appeal. I think the mini-sailback and the mini-pteranadon could be modified to fit as infants into their parent "kits" (I think about building a nest on top of the cave for the flying reptiles to drag the cro-magnon woman to, ala One Million Years BC), heh.
But in general these just seem more like curiosities than valued additions to the series. Pretty sad that they're the only additions to the line by Monogram/Revell since 1977.

Just bought 4 mini triceratops for £10 on E Bay. Bagged but not boxed. A cheeky best offer I wasn't expecting to win! Now what do I do with them? Maybe a Trike with a nest diorama?

Thanks Andy. The pile gets bigger, but these days so does my job, so I have less time to build. I suspect most of us just get a buzz out of looking at what we might build if and when we retire! I've had my Allosaurus renovation on the bench since the summer. I have my re-issue baseless mammoth on the list next. Goodness knows when I will get round to these 'little critters'.

Oh man, did you nail it!
"The pile gets bigger, but these days so does my job, so I have less time to build. I suspect most of us just get a buzz out of looking at what we might build if and when we retire!"
I just keep piling up hours at work. And when I do get a breather, I have so much other stuff to catch up on, it's hard to get nearly as much modeling done as I want to.

Too right my friend, and its Christmas and family. I may just get a few hours in, but only on the day before I go back!

I love the Mini Dinos and I couldn't believe my eyes to see these new, scaled down toolings of the classic kits appearing so many years later. Of course they were part of the big wave of dinosaur marketing in the wake of Jurassic Park's success. The disparity in scales is a shame and if you got complete bases for all of them they would be more of a tribute to Aurora than a Jurassic Park cash in. Painting the tiny eyes and teeth is a proper challenge. I recently completed my set with the elusive T Rex and he's on the pile of kits waiting to be made (it sounds like we've all got one).

I never saw these until recently when I looked at the main PS site. I was out of the PS loop for quite a while, especially at that point having graduated and weighed down with my job.
Looking at the tooling costs to reduce the moulds, you'd have though Revell/Monogram could have either added new full size Dinos or released the full set of old ones before they lost the moulds. I'm surprised they didn't do what Lindberg did, and later when Revell released their lost world Dinos (Velociraptor duo and T Rex) re-boxed and re-released the old ones with new logos. In fact I wonder how a company like LIndberg won the JP franchise in the first place?
Anyway being a habitual collector its just one more set of kits for me to finish collecting

Having never seen one of these things close up before I didn't realise just how'mini' they are! I'll need a magnifier to just glue one up!

It has to be said that the Dimetrodon in mini form is still a decent kit. Especially since it still has its base.

I came across theses mini dinos at the local wal-mart with the kddies years ago and had to pick them up. I assembled them and then I put them away in a paper can in a box with another couple dozen paper cans for the better part of a decade. I pulled them out to put them in my display case I finally got but somehow I lost the T-rex arms, the triceratops tail and maybe the allosaurus tounge though I'm not sure if it had one now. Now I'm sure they were complete when I put them away and I went through that box several times and can not explain it. I can't do anything about it now. figured I'd come across another set sometime. figured Revell would re-issue them at some point anyway; its just a matter of time. Attachments:
