Is it really that rare?! I've always had one and assumed others did as well. But it makes sense in it's rarity- besides the later "large box" production run, the second base part was probably ignored or lost as superfluous. I'm going to dig out my PS parts box- I might have an extra or two. If I do, I'll make them available for swapping.

I know I've owned the original collection for years and never saw one till 5 years ago, that makes it rare for me I also have the Allo base but not molded. I'd only do it if it was worth while. If you have a extra original Sabre base let me know I'm interested for sure. Thanks

And last I knew, was working o nthe mammoth. So, that leaves the allo, and the second sailback base. I know Borealis originaly started offering the sailback base, but seem to remember them dropping it from the line because of lack of interest. Mike might know better as he had a little more to do with them than I did.

Sort of. It was added in 72. From what I have seen the 71 issues actually seem to be more prevalant than the 72s. (that goes for all the 1st wave kits) Which is kind of odd, since the 2nd version was available for what, 5-6 years. But I think everyone bought heavy on the first release and didn't need to restock their shelves with the 72 versions that much .

I was fortunate and took advantage of getting ALL the bases that Borealis made and have ALL of them. Glad to also get the second base ordered today for the Saber Tooth as well.
What I haven't gotten yet is a base for the T-Rex...the one I've seen is a lot of $$ and I think I could just make one.
