I probably have too many copies of these Aurora kits - an addictive personality combined with real love for the Prehistoric Scenes originals has made me a collector.
I have at least 2 copies of each original kit, additional copies of the 1972 boxed versions for all of the 1971 kits except the Flying Reptile and Tar Pit, and additional mint sealed versions of many kits: the 71 and 72 Cro-magnon woman, the Cave Bear, the 71 and the 72 Cave, the Armored Dinosaur, the Giant Bird, and the 71 Allosaurus.
But probably the most over-the-top acquisition, at least in terms of required space, are 4 full-sized Tyrannosaurus Rex kits (an original, a Monogram reissue, a Revell reissue, and the Altantis reissue) - I thought I would post some comparison shots here for folks interested:
Of course, nothing compares to the original Aurora one. Not quite willing to drop $500 for a near mint copy though, so this one is fine for me. I kind of love that the box was used to store Christmas ornaments at some point:
Here's the original Aurora, a Monogram Rex, a Revell Rex, and the Atlantis Rex (in the most practical box). Kind of weird that the first reissue, from Monogram, actually shrunk the box down a bit to presumably make it less cumbersome, but the subsequent Revell reissue increased the box size back to the exact same size as the original Aurora version.
Here's a shot showing the color differences between the original red Aurora on the right, the green Monogram/Revell, and the orange Atlantis 2011 issue:
I got a little addicted to buying repops for a while - largely because I have so little adult experience painting them that I wanted at least one "practice" version to experiment with - I actually have at least 2 repops of each kit, along with at least 2 of each original Aurora kit, other than the original. Here's a bunch of reissues, including all of the recent Revell reissuance, as well as a few Revell Germany, Monogram and earlier Revell issuances:
Spare Monogram 1978 Mammoth box in there (made the kit) if anyone is interested.
And, of course, is there anything cuter than the tiny Quick Snap dinosaurs? Here's a complete set, along with an extra Sailback Reptile I nabbed to hopefully make a diorama one day (throwing in a Pyro specimen as well):
