What a shame. It took me a while to spot the rip as a rip. At first glance it looked like a crease. I bought an Airfix triple pack once which ended up around £20. It was only when I won it I realized that at the end of the description it said that the T Rex was missing. This was at the very end of the add and clearly tucked away to deceive the careless bidder. That being me! Like Scooke says its easy to get excited, but its also easy to assume honesty too, especially if you are an honest dealer yourself.

Look at the front of the box again. Especially around the arm of the rex. Looks like someone kicked a hole in the box, then pulled the cardboard back flush.
Makes me wonder if it is even complete now. With something that size, just about anything could have fallen out, or been taken out. I'm not going to follow up with the seller. It was outside ebay, and I requested to make the purchase. The issue is right there in the picture to see, even if it wasn't in the description. So, I blame myself more than I blame the seller.
Like I said, at least it wasn't an expensive lesson.

I am always leary of older model kits that are "Still sealed" its so easy to shrink wrap an item these days and say it is still sealed. Usually loose fitting shrink wrap is a giveaway. Its not uncommon for kits today to be bought and put away, but back in the 70's and 80's, most kits were opened, maybe not built, but opened. Tay, at least it was not an expensive lesson like you mentioned. one thing I keep in mind before I would pay a high price for a "Still sealed" kit is can the seller prove to me that what is supposed to be in the box is actually in there.

Actually, a lot of the stuff from the 70's that is still sealed is stuff that never sold. It was old store stock that was usually still in the master carton and shoved in a corner somewhere. Just a few years ago there was a guy selling sealed Giant Birds. He'd sell like one every month or two, so as not to flood the market. When he got to the last one, he also included the master carton. www.tylisaari.com/prehistoricscenes/kits/gbirdshipper.jpgIf I remember the story correctly, his grandparents had run a store. When they passed, his parents put most of the stuff in storage. He inherited it all and was selling it all off on ebay. Remember, back in those days, everyone carried model kits. There weren't many dedicated kit stores, but all the corner stores and such had them. Which is why it isn't really hard to find any of these kits still sealed. Finding them in really nice shape can be a challenge with the bigger flimsier ones like the spiked, trike, and mammoth. But there are lots of sealed ones to be had, if you are willing to pay for them. Which is what I am going to start concentrating on, if I can find a good way to store them once I get them.

We had 2 small stores here that carried the PS kits. They both shut down in the early 80's. I wonder what ever happened to all the unsold kits that were in those stores. I know there are a lot of original sealed kits out there that are available, I just hate to see people get burned on stuff that is offered as still sealed, but has actually been opened and re shrink wrapped. Cool story on the birds.

Yeah. I miss the days when it was a lot easier to contact both buyers and sellers on ebay. Used to be able to get so much more information back then.

I've bought three items from PSgreat through ebay. A swamp base, an armored dinosaur base half and a Sabre tooth base half. All three items were packed brilliantly and made their way over the Atlantic in perfect order. All three casts were superb and the resin quality is excellent. He's doing a brilliant job getting these parts out and frankly he must be doing this at cost. I'm going to put an order in for his battery operated cave torches. If you are a UK buyer you can be confident if you order any of his stuff it will get to you in A1 condition. I never thought Id ever get that rare sabre tooth base half. The casting has hollow section underneath the rocky part and the detail is very crisp so even though its bit heavier than the original its just as good.

That's great to know you got it in great shape ART. I have been in communication with PSGREAT for quite a while now and he's got some nifty ideas coming our way in the next while. In fact, he's doing some things for me too for some future projects. I'm excited to see what he's got coming. The torches, I think, are a brilliant idea!

He has told me he has been developing an Armoured Dinosaur base with a glowing volcanic cone. Its a cool idea. Now all we need is somebody to recast the Allosaurus base. Now there is a part I really need.

My humble observations of this T REX kit would suggest its been sprayed a lighter shinier green colour all over. If you look at the photo of inner leg component near the flat rotating surfaces you can see a greyer less glossy patch on both. The other bits are painted too, like the tongue. I seem to remember this kit being a bit like the Allosaurus green of the 'Fang' kits as they are now. However it could just be the flash off the camera or getting up so early hasn't done my vision any good whatsoever!

I concur with Artdeco' The leg attaching points and pins are the original dark green Revell colors plus it looks like a gloss rattle can paint job so you most likely looking at a tough to remove enamel that may have heavy drip marks.

Hey Trevor - I emailed the guy with the T-Rex. He said it was painted the brighter green. Oh well - woulda been cool to have an oddball plastic color show up. Steve

Yeah. That is what I was thinking. I figured it was probably painted given the amount of gloss it had, but just thought I would ask. Would have been cool if those mouth inserts were actually molded in that color. Looks almost like the sailback plastic color.

I'm so happy, I have just won a large collection of genuine 1972 Aurora Prehistoric Scenes for £36. A Woolly Mammoth and much sought after base and tree,Neanderthal Man complete with all parts, a bright orange Pteranodon complete with spare battle scared wing,a s ilver Triceratops with base rock and plant, a complete giant bird with nest eggs and everything. Even a a Cro Magnon Woman with spare legs etc .These are in very good condition with a couple of parts painted otherwise complete. Theres even a set of spiked dinosaur front legs and a spare head. Even with hefty postage they come in at under a tenner each and are original aurora goodies. There still is a bargain to be had. Add this to the pyro Ankylosaurus PS Great is sending me its a perfect dinosaur week. Can't wait for my giant bird, i have one with out the base accessories so this is a great feeling. Now with the complete mammoth base I have every PS part at least once. Landing on a comet is nothing compared to getting an original mammoth base!
